Tell us about Humdingers?
Humdingers Catering started with Robert Hunningher's vision of providing delicious, modest food. He began by selling cakes, then expanded to delivering sandwiches and salads to local NHS walk-in centres.In 2008, Robert established a kitchen in Hoxton, officially launching Humdingers Catering. As the business grew, it moved to a larger headquarters on Hoxton Street in 2011.During the pandemic, Robert opened a Bakery & Soup Kitchen, where we serve 800-1,000 free meals weekly, totalling over 100,000 meals in 2020 alone. Over time, Humdingers expanded its offerings, including the addition of three cafes and a shop.Humdingers Catering continues to evolve while remaining committed to serving its clients and supporting the local community.
What is your favourite thing about the business, and some of your favourite brands/products in stock?
What I like about our business is how we still have that sense of community that I feel like some companies can lose as they grow, we use the resources we have to support the people who need it the most.The brands we stock that I love the most are Agua de Madre, obviously, and our Farang Payst products. Together they are great for dinner, have a homemade Thai curry and an ice-cold water kefir.
What do you love about Agua de Madre? Personally, as someone who doesn’t drink alcohol but can’t get enough of fizzy drinks the water kefir has been an amazing alternative from the taste to the health benefits. I hope to see it stocked in more shops soon because it has become a slight obsession.
Can you tell us something interesting about the company that not many people know/ you wish more people knew?
We still use profits from the cafes and catering side of the company to run our soup kitchen, we provide free soup from all our branches and have our kitchen in Hoxton open 4 days a week for anyone to come to.
