With staycations on the horizon, now’s the time to get to know Cornwall. And where better to begin than Padstow? It’s one of the Madre’s favourite bustling harbour towns... 

Padstow

If you’re like us, you’ll know your tastebuds are the key to unlocking any place. That’s why, if you’re in the Padstow area, we suggest you head on down to Stein’s Coffee Shop on Lanadwell Street. It’s the best place for a 4pm pick-me-up after a bracing coastal hike or a long, lazy day spent at St. George’s Cove. 

Padstow’s first specialty coffee shop, this is the perfect bolt hole for coffee-lovers. Charlie Stein is a coffee expert with a taste for ethically & sustainably sourced beans (now that’s something we can all get behind!). Specially selected from coffee farms across South America, you can rest assured that every cup of coffee will have the feel-good, do-good factor. 

The Cornish know a good kefir water when they taste one, which explains why you’ll also find Agua de Madre stocked in Stein’s Coffee Shop.

You can sample a premium, speciality coffee selected by Charlie Stein and Origin Coffee, then pick up a bottle of our kefir water for the road. 

Porthleven

And if you’re further south, Origin Coffee in Porthleven’s the place to be! 

Drop by Harbour Head (the maritime views ain’t half bad there!) to try the latest single origin coffee, selected monthly by the Origin Team. 

By now you probably know we’re committed to ethical, sustainable practice- that’s why we love Origin’s ethos so much!

Tom Sobey & his team travel to the ends of the earth for great coffee, going directly to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Colombia & Brazil to meet farmers and mill representatives, their workers and families. 

Environmentally and socially conscious, Origin’s full of respect ‘for the people, the process, the coffee, the brewing’. If that sounds like your thing, you should also check out The Warehouse in Penryn. It’s a light, vibrant space where you can enjoy Origin coffee, as well as breakfast and lunch sourced from local producers.

And if you do drop by an Origin shop, you’ll find the Madre there, just chillin’ in the fridges. It’s the perfect combo.

Newlyn, Penzance

Keeping with the theme of coffee-by-the-sea, we’re heading to Lovetts in Newlyn next. We Madres love Newlyn: it’s a small West Cornish fishing town with a rich history and lots of great cafés. 

One of our favourites is Lovetts, the exciting café-by-day and bar-by-night. Just a short walk from the water’s edge, it’s the perfect pitstop after a stroll along the coast from Penzance. But don’t take our word for it: Lovetts has been described by Tony S., one happy customer, as the ‘best coffee in Cornwall’.

With single-origin, speciality coffee on offer made by a tight-knit, expert team, Lovetts is a must for any self-respecting coffee lover. PS: they also have the best stoneware mugs in town!

And the good news doesn’t stop there: Agua de Madre is in Lovetts too! After a busy day exploring the local area, our kefir water’s the perfect cool, reinvigorating afternoon fizz.
